There are dozens of medical institutions of research and higher learning in China. In each of its 27 provinces and autonomous regions, as well as 4 municipalities directly under the central government, there is at least two medical institute of high learning, one western medicine, and one traditional Chinese medicine, and each of them is either an independent medical university by itself or a medical college affiliated to a university.
